What Lilly says

Christian Astrology, Chap. LXXIII, p.421 (1647 ed.) — verdict: Favorable, with difficulty

A married man asked whether he'd ever actually receive his wife's promised dowry -- his own significator retrograde and withdrawn into the 12th house, 'as if the querent had been in some despair of it,' which he confessed was true. Lilly traced the Moon carrying the Sun's virtue to the querent's own ruler and reassured him the payment would go through despite the delay, whatever had been promised. It was: the money came, as did the good character he'd read in her.

What the engine says

Querens's own verdict, computed independently from the same chart: Favorable, with difficulty — matches Lilly's.

How the engine reasoned

  1. The ascendant is at Capricorn 3.67° — the 1st-house cusp, standing for the querent.
  2. Querent is SATURN (ruler of the 1st house); quesited is SATURN (ruler of house 2).
  3. SATURN (querent) dignity: essential -5, accidental -5, combined -10. (CA p.115)
  4. SATURN (quesited) dignity: essential -5, accidental -5, combined -10. (CA p.115)
  5. Considerations before judgment: Ascendant is neither too early nor too late — chart is fit to judge. (CA p.121)
  6. Querent and quesited share the same ruler (SATURN) — the matter and the querent are one and the same, automatically favorable.
  7. Perfection is favorable, but one significator's combined dignity is net negative — the matter still comes to pass, just not cleanly, so the verdict downgrades to favorable with difficulty. (CA p.115)
  8. Overall verdict: favorable with difficulty.

Same verdict, different path

Saturn happens to rule both the querent's ascendant and 2nd house in this chart, so the engine resolves it through the 'same ruler' rule -- querent and matter are treated as one and the same -- rather than the translation of light through the Moon and Sun that Lilly actually traced. The favorable-with-difficulty verdict matches (Saturn's own weak dignity drives that downgrade either way), but the engine never touches translation of light for this particular chart.
