What Lilly says

Christian Astrology, Chap. LIV, p.397 (1647 ed.) — verdict: Favorable, with difficulty

Fish delivered by barge went missing overnight. Lilly read the chart for a description of the likely thief, obtained a warrant, and searched a suspected waterman's house over a week later. Part of the fish was recovered, part already eaten, and the thief confessed. Lilly's own stated rule for this kind of question: the Moon's application to the Lord of the 2nd house argues recovery, graded by how strong the parties are.

What the engine says

Querens's own verdict, computed independently from the same chart: Favorable, with difficulty — matches Lilly's.

How the engine reasoned

  1. The ascendant is at Aries 26.42° — the 1st-house cusp, standing for the querent.
  2. Querent is MARS (ruler of the 1st house); quesited is MERCURY (ruler of house 2).
  3. MARS (querent) dignity: essential +8, accidental +13, combined +21. (CA p.115)
  4. MERCURY (quesited) dignity: essential -7, accidental -5, combined -12. (CA p.115)
  5. Considerations before judgment: Ascendant is neither too early nor too late — chart is fit to judge. (CA p.121)
  6. No aspect currently forms between the significators.
  7. Reception: MARS receives MERCURY by triplicity (moderate reception). (CA p.112)
  8. No aspect, translation, or collection connects the significators — the matter does not perfect.
  9. No perfection between the main significators, but MOON (the querent's co-significator) is applying to MERCURY by sextile — a secondary testimony toward the matter resolving, though not as cleanly as a direct perfection would. (CA p.398)
  10. Overall verdict: favorable with difficulty.
